Pel Eyewear explains that many glasses are many from harmful materials, for example, plastic. They explain that "[t]hese plastics are usually used once and then thrown away or recycled (often the latter as recycling these plastics is usually tricky). As plastics don't biodegrade (they photodegrade), they'll slowly break down into smaller fragments known as microplastics. They will eventually contaminate soil, water & food" (Pel Eyewear). One of the many companies working towards sustainable sunglasses is Shwood. Business Insider reports that Shwood "makes premium wood sunglasses and prescription eyewear that's handcrafted using sustainable materials in the US" (Business Insider). These glasses can be purchased for around $149.00 from Shwood. For prescription glasses, these glasses are at an average price, yet, not the most affordable. However, purchasing these glasses can help reduce your own plastic waste.
