About 90% of synthetic polymers are made from finite natural resources and are unsustainable since they can not be recycled or reused. Researchers are trying to chemically break down plastics so they can be reused. Plastics are polymers that can be broken down into monomers, and those monomers can be recombined into polymers to create a new product. This solution will help preserve the finite resources and prevent plastic from filling up landfills.
