According to Well Made Clothes, "[c]onventional swimwear isn’t kind to our environment" (Well Made Clothes), it is "[m]ade using virgin synthetics derived from plastic, traditional swimwear is not built to biodegrade" (Well Made Clothes). "Not only do these pieces take decades to break down in nature, but their production process also has a significant impact" (Well Made Clothes). The article continues to explain how swimwear contributes to ocean pollution as well as global warming. A solution to purchasing these swimsuits is the many brands that have been producing swimsuits made from recycled materials. Business Insider shares that the "retailer Everlane just released its first line of swimwear, and every item in the collection is comprised of 82% regenerated nylon derived from recycled plastic" (Business Insider). Everlane's swimwear collection "offers seven styles and eight colors that you can mix and match" (Business Insider). These swimsuits can be purchased for $65.00 from Everlane. This alternative is not the most affordable, however it is a sustainable alternative for non-sustainable swimsuits.
